Bellarine and Geelong

Environmental Volunteering Calendar

As an extension of our “Gardens for Wildlife’ program and in conjunction with the Borough of Queenscliffe, The Swan Bay Environment Association is undertaking to revegetate some of our local neighbourhood parks.

In 2022 we met with some of the residents surrounding Jacqueline Court to find out where they would like some planting to be done. The Queenscliffe Indigenous Nursery has propagated the plants required and with the coming of more suitable weather, we are now ready to start with the revegetation.

We will meet at Jacqueline Court in Point Lonsdale for a planting morning at 10.30 on Sunday May 26

Please wear suitable clothing and footwear. Morning Tea provided!

All are welcome to come along and contribute to restoring our local habitat.

Join the Bellarine Catchment Network and Corangamite CMA for a day weeding on Mud Islands. Help protect and enhance habitat by removing invasive weeds along the beach and dunes.

Mud Islands are part of the Port Phillip Heads Marine National Park and the Port Phillip Bay (Western Shoreline) & Bellarine Peninsula RAMSAR site. The habitat on the islands includes saltmarsh, mudflats and dune shrubland, these habitats are critical for the survival of many species of bird, endangered species like the White-faced Storm Petrel and migratory shorebirds.

Meeting Point: We will be meeting at Queenscliff Harbour (map location here), where we will be taking a boat with Queenscliff Dive Centre from the Marina out to the island. Please ensure you arrive on time so that you do not miss the boat and you can fill out required forms before departure.

Catering: Morning tea and lunch will be provided – please provide dietary requirements by contacting Rachael Beecham rachael.beecham@ccma.vic.gov.au

It may get cold on the boat, so please bring a warm jacket/rain jacket. You will get wet. We will be wading through water around knee height when we get off the boat, so it is suggested to wear shorts/bathers/wetsuit and/or have a change of clothes.

Bring a hat, drinking water, snacks, sunscreen, binoculars and wear sturdy shoes.

NOTE: If the weather becomes unfavourable, the event will be postponed and participants will be notified as soon as possible.
