Bellarine and Geelong

Environmental Volunteering Calendar

Join Conservation Volunteers Australia at Edwards Point Wildlife Reserve to help restore the last remaining stand of coastal woodland on the Bellarine Peninsula. We're teaming up with the Friends of Edwards Point for a day of weed extraction, followed by morning tea and the chance to explore the stunning flora of the reserve.

The Two Bays Lookout provides visitors with breath taking views of both Port Phillip and Swan Bay, where you can discover remote beaches that are home to resident and migratory wader birds. The reserve is a Ramsar site and an international flyway, making it an incredibly significant location to protect and conserve.

Look forward to seeing you there!

The Friends of Edwards Point Wildlife Reserve invite you to join us in experiencing the unique flora of our reserve in a new way

Friends of Edwards Point are asking for your assistance to help us collect rubbish washed up on along the foreshore of the Reserve. It's also a great opportunity to see the variety of seabirds that reside in and around the waters of the Reserve. Don't forget to wear a hat, appropriate clothes, preferably long sleeves, and pants (more protection from the sun) and comfortable shoes to wear for walking on sand. We will also provide light refreshments after the walk.

💧🌳Coastal-Woodlands Series🌳💧 Unite with the Friends of Edwards Point and Parks Victoria at Edwards Point Wildlife Reserve. Contribute to restoration of the last remaining coastal-woodlands on the Bellarine through a hands-on weeding session. We will be targeting various woody weed species that populate the reserve. Your participation directly preserves a RAMSAR-designated site and international flyway. Embrace this chance to safeguard a precious ecosystem and be a part of a significant conservation effort.

** Key Highlights ** Guided hands-on weeding for coastal conservation. Share camaraderie and refreshments during a free morning tea. Explore the stunning Two Bays Lookout with breath-taking views. Discover secluded beaches hosting diverse bird species. All are welcome! ✊ Step Up and Save Bellarine's Coastal Woodlands ✊ Contact ledwards@cva.org.au for enquiries.

Have you ever wondered what those horse-shoe shaped jelly things are? If sharks lay eggs? What all the different shells on the beach are? These questions and more will be answered by Bellarine Catchment Network at this free, family-friendly beachcomb activity.

This activity is aimed at both children and adults so all are welcome. Adults need to accompany children under 12. There are limited spots available so please register.

What's involved: Participants will go on a beachcomb lead by experienced staff, looking for creatures and artefacts along the shoreline. Participants can enter the water up to their knees if wearing booties (either BYO or provided) and if conditions are appropriate, participants can also use provided aquascopes (e.g., plastic underwater viewing device - see image below). Participants will receive educational resources such as posters, brochures and more at the end of the session.

Please BYO: hat, sunscreen, water and booties or enclosed shoes like sneakers (no flip flops or sandals). It is suggested to wear bathers or shorts if intending to enter the water.

Access: Drive down towards Lower Bluff and park in the first car park, just north of the toilets. Walk along the path towards the beach and look out for the Bellarine Catchment Network table and staff. This activity will be run along the shoreline but can accommodate wheelchairs - please get in contact with us. The event will be run in English but please contact us if you require support as we work to accommodate everyone.

Note: Please do not attend if you are unwell. This event is also subject to weather conditions and will be postponed if weather is not safe or unfavourable. All participants will be notified 24 hours before.

This event is supported by Bellarine Bayside. For more information, please email us at info@bcn.org.au or visit www.environmentbellarine.org.au
