Friends of Hooded Plover Bellarine

The Friends of the Hooded Plover Bellarine (FOHPB) have been working to protect the Hooded Plovers along the Point Lonsdale to Breamlea stretch of coastline since the beginning of Birdlife Australia's Beach-Nesting Birds Program in 2006. The Hooded Plover is listed as "vulnerable" under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act 1999.

A team of volunteers monitor the birds and enter observations into Birdlife Australia's online data portal.

Over the breeding season volunteers also act as "wardens" on the beach, engaging with the public and providing information about the needs of the birds and especially the vulnerable chicks.

New volunteers warmly welcomed.
